About Me

I am Shangyong Shi (施尚永). I am the Pim Postdoc Fellow in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences for the year 2024 at Johns Hopkins University, working with Dr. Benjamin Zaitchik.

Weather and climate phenomena are energy-driven cycles within the Earth system. From this perspective, my research integrates observations, modeling, remote sensing, and AI to examine how energy and radiation shape precipitation phases, hydroclimatic variations, and extremes, and improve Earth system modeling. I aim to improve the predictability of Earth’s water cycle across weather and climate scales.

Key words: Hydroclimatology, Precipitation phase partitioning, Snow hydrology, Remote sensing of precipitation, Extreme precipitation, Machine learning, Climate change.
